Section 8 / Housing Choice Vouchers

Section 8/Rent Vouchers Salina KSApplications are currently being taken for Section 8.

The Section 8 HCV program is funded through the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).

The Salina Housing Authority is funded for 317 rental vouchers for income qualified applicants.  Section 8 participants rent from private landlords and receive monthly rental assistance paid directly to the landlord.  The amount of rent a participant would pay is based on 30% of their adjusted gross income and the remaining portion is paid directly to the landlord, by the Salina Housing Authority.

Participants of this program get to choose where they live in the City of Salina dependent on the landlord accepting S8 vouchers.   The Section 8 program is only open for enrollment based on funds and voucher availability.

Properties must pass an inspection to ensure they meet the HUD quality standards (HQS) at initial lease-up and
at least once bi-annually. Tenants pay a portion of their rent to the landlord and the remaining portion is paid
directly to the landlord by the Salina Housing Authority.
